~ Get Involved ~

Attention: We need someone to volunteer an hour to move boxes of books to storage about once every week or two. If you are interested, please contact us via e-mail at .

If you can volunteer even an hour a week, we can use your help at the Friends of the Vallejo Public Library. Volunteers may come in at any time during open hours for as many hours as they desire to work. Training and orientation will be set up to show you exactly what needs to be done. Once a year, the County Library normally gives each individual volunteer an appreciation gift to recognize all its volunteers’ hard work.

Sorting and warehousing (Weekly):

We need people to help sort and box books for the annual book sale. We need strong individuals who have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds to move boxes of books into our storage area within the library.

Book Sale Set-up and Tear Down (Annually):

We need individuals who can help set-up tables for the annual book sale. We also need help in bringing down the books from the warehouse area in the library and placing them in the proper category on the tables. Subsequently, we also need help to take down the tables and pack up any items remaining at the end of the sale.

Book Sale Workers (Annually):

We need members to help replenish the books on the sales tables as they are sold. We need others to man the desk to collect the money for the books sold and keep track of the amounts.

Internet Research (Weekly):

If you have a laptop computer with wireless internet connection, you can help us determine the value of some of our rare and special books. This will aid us in determining a selling price for such items.

Computer Work (Weekly):

If you have a laptop computer, you can help us by typing up information on books we will place for sale on ebay. This will allow us to more quickly list these items for sale and receive money all year long to help the library.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us via e-mail at

~ Membership ~

The Friends of the Vallejo Public Library offer a variety of memberships to meet all needs. Membership in the Friends is a win-win relationship. It helps provide some of the funding desperately needed by our public library, but it also gives its members a sense of involvement, the knowledge they are helping their community, a chance to build new friendships, and an annual recognition by the County Library for its volunteers. The Friends is a nonprofit community organization dedicated to supporting the Library programs that might not be funded otherwise.

In addition to the intangible knowledge that you are supporting library services through your membership dues, membership also has certain tangible benefits. Our members are the first to learn of our special sales, they commonly receive discounts and/or special privileges at our sales, and most importantly, members are offered a free bag of books at our annual sale. We have books + You like to read = A GREAT COMBINATION.

As Groucho Marx once said: "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog, it is hard to read."
